Alrighty yā€™all, Mutant Mayhem spoilers ahead
There was a gosh darn lot I loved about this movie the soundtrack and animation were fantastic, the turtles were hilarious, and the emotions were strikingly realistic. Out of all the beautiful details in this masterpiece though, the thing that stands out to me the most is the significance of Superfly.
There was a line during the chase scene where the turtles are trying to get away with the last piece of the doomsday machine that made my blood run cold. Wingnut is trying to convince them to change their minds and surrender the piece. ā€œJust turn it over before Superfly gets here because when he does heā€™s not going to be nice about it.ā€ (Dang I really wish the script was available so I could get the exact wording, but this was the gist of it) Donnie replies that sheā€™s already not being nice and her response is ā€œTrust me, Superflyā€™s going to be a lot less nice.ā€
There was fear in her voice.
Sheā€™s flying in front of them, frantically trying to get them to give up before itā€™s too late because sheā€™s terrified of her older brother and what heā€™ll do to them.
A lot of things all start clicking into place after that. Superfly had to raise his siblings on his own in a hostile world. His response to all that fear and hate was violence. None of his siblings were ever really on board with his grand genocidal plan but they went along with it because he told them it was the only way theyā€™d be safe and accepted.
From the way he tries to intimidate and manipulate the kid turtles he supposedly just accepted as cousins, (ā€œyouā€™re not as cool as I thought you were.ā€ ā€˜If you try to go against me Iā€™ll have to kill youā€™) to little lines like Rocksteady figuring out that maybe Superfly is the reason heā€™s always angry, to the big central line that makes Splinter question his parenting choices (ā€œmy way is the only way you can be safe and happyā€), Superfly has all the hallmarks of an abusive caregiver.
In light of that, the rest of the story takes on a lot more meaning. His younger siblings didnā€™t want to follow in his footsteps but they went allong with it because they had nowhere else to go, not until the turtles offered them a new home and a new family.
Seeing the whole community of New York come together to help this newly formed family and fight Superfly after that nearly brought me to tears.
This is something I need to see so badly in the real world. We need safe places for kids to go when the people they depend on to survive are hurting them. We need people willing to love and protect them. We need communities working together to support them.
I would have given anything for that kind of chance as a kid.
Thank you Mutant Mayhem for showing us what a happy ending looks like in those kind of situations. I hope the world will learn a thing or two.

Wait,,, Are the other mutants adults or are they also teenagers??
Most of them seem like they're adults, specifically Superfly. But given the fact it's been 15 years since the ooze was released, I'm now not so sure šŸ‘šŸ‘

Note
what was your fav part of the mm movie??
OOOOOOHHH THANK YOU FOR ASKING
[SPOILER WARNING]
Okay so there are several, but Iā€™ll be ranking a few. 1. Iā€™d have to say my most favorite part was When they met Superfly and the other cousins, they had such a cute interaction and part of me kinda wishes theyā€™d stayed with them because CMONNā€¼ļø It was so cuteā€¼ļø Iā€™d give anything to have cousins as nice as that. šŸ˜” ā€”ā€” So, from when Superflyā€™s theme music came on to when he said he doubted if they were cool.
2. I cried when Splinter showed them that he brought the human world to them šŸ˜ oml, I was so sad for Splinter when they left him from hardly saying anything, heā€™s such a sweet dadddddd aghhhhhh!!!
3. The baby scenes. Oh my god. The most precious little boogers they were. Did you hear their little baby coos??? šŸ„ŗ omg me and my friend CRIED.
Honorable mentions:
ā€¢ That one part where theyā€™re just so in sync while battling the people in their lairs. THEY WERE SO SYNCHRONIZED I WAS IN LOVE WITH THE BOYS. Love them so much.
ā€¢ The opening scene where Stockman was cuddling the baby Superfly also made me cry. šŸ„ŗ He was a Baby, did you see that?? (Also I have a little tiny theory ask me later)
ā€¢ Every interaction with April. Leo seeing her with sparkles in his eyes, him deciding to save her, them five talking so nicely over pizza, her bringing them so school (Oh my god that school scene was precious), literally April. So sweet (oml her saying ā€œthis is as friends, right?ā€ Had me CACKLING and no one found it as funny as I did. ā€”This also gave me another theory ask me laterā€”)
ā€¢ The scene where people were supporting the boys šŸ„ŗ omg the people helping Splinter up and making sure he was okay almost made me cry.
Yeah so thatā€™s my scene rankings :)
Tell me in the comments or reblogs what your guyā€™s favorite scenes were cause I feel like I forgot a few that will make me go ā€œOh yeah I loved that one!!!ā€

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT AND DONT WANT SPOILERS
Okay now with that out of the way, my thoughts on the movie
I really enjoyed it.
I went to see it with a few friends and one of them made a really good point. They actually act like teenagers. Like yes, it was kinda cringey at some parts but thatā€™s because it sounded like something a teenager would say because teenagers are awkward.
Iā€™ve had very stupid conversations with my friends that sound like the conversations in the movie.
I noticed that this movie did the ā€œteen talkā€ a lot better than Iā€™m pretty sure all other versions of tmnt (in my opinion), even better than rise I think. Most others sound like adults writing teenagers and it sounds good most of the time but others it sounds weird.
Now for the main reason I made this post: April and Leo.
I was kind of dreading this when I saw in the trailers Leo would be interested in her (2012 April and Donnie flashbacks) but it was well done. I am a bit tired of April being a love interest for the turtles but I think itā€™s important to include that April is black, plus size and has acne and how Leo described her as ā€œthe most beautiful girl heā€™s ever seenā€. Unfortunately the qualities she has arenā€™t shown very often to be attractive because of bs beauty standards.
Itā€™s late so I canā€™t fully explain what Iā€™m trying to say so disclaimer in case I didnā€™t come across this way: I donā€™t think that being black, plus size or having acne makes you not pretty, you are, just society sometimes says that and society is stupid.
April and Leo are cute together and written well and there is no ā€œone of them is obsessed and the other is leading them onā€ going on. The fact that they end the movie looking into TCRI is adorable to me. My fav investigator duo.
Also Leo is an absolute dork. The whole phone call scene: ā€œitā€™s a date then!ā€ ā€œWait what a date?ā€ ā€œUhhh *cue fumbling and wrestling for the phone* uhh nothing bad service byeee! Whoā€™s got no rizz now?ā€ Like Leo you are bad at this oh my god. (Again awkward teenager stuff)
And his bothers teasing him was so funny. They did not let that slide and teased him at every opportunity. Classic sibling behaviour
The tease for shredder was fun and I canā€™t wait to see what they do with him and his backstory.
Best Splinter. I love him so much. I love his whole ā€œhating humansā€ arc and how he paralleled superfly and how he CHOSE to not be like him.
Both superfly and splinter have a very understandable fear (that turned into hate) of humans and how they both thought that the best way to protect their families were to hold their family too tight.
While splinter hid from the world and his fear pushed him into hiding and laying low, superflyā€™s fear caused him to lash out and take out his anger in a destructive way.
But splinter getting a girlfriend at the end was so cute he deserves this.
Also side note: why did so many turtles almost get hit by cars in this movie? Specifically Mikey.
He almost got hit in the flashback, then in the garage, then in the final battle with the flying cars. Then Donnie also almost got hit, I think just before they were captured but Iā€™m not sure.
When they had to leave the movie and walked home really sadly and kept looking at the humans longingly I legit almost cried.
I was kind of surprised they ended up actually going to school and everyone was accepting. I thought theyā€™d be like ā€œwe donā€™t need humans to accept us cause we accept ourselvesā€ but Iā€™m glad they got to go to school. They deserve it.
Also April being super upfront with them about if they didnā€™t save her sheā€™d probably be running screaming was so funny. Also how she was planning to release a story about them while knowing humans probably wouldnā€™t accept them was a very realistic thing.
I loved April so much by the way. The way she fucking chucked the news mic into the crowd was iconic.
The fight scenes were SOOOO AMAZING I LOVED THEM SO MUCH. The splitting between the 4 (I think) fights at the same time and every other fight scene were so well done. Them figuring out that they skills they learned for years actually work in a fight and how theyā€™re awesome at it was adorable to watch. And the way in the beginning how they were using their skills to steal get groceries was great.
All the turtles up from every version are good fighters (in their own ways) but these versions are definitely up there with how skilled and how well they work as a team. Love them.
AND THE TURTLES SHARING A ROOM AND BUNK BEDS WAS ADORABLE. Itā€™s so funny cause later they were like ā€œyea we have so much space to hold the 6 or 7 other mutants in our house on short notice we have lots of space!ā€ Which means they chose to share a room with is adorable and a little bit unrealistic lol.
It seemed like a pretty realistic movie and I have bullet points of the least realistic parts (excluding the mutant animals cause duh). And this is just me being picky lol, I still loved this movie and these are just jokes.
The fact that they wrote nice things on aprils locker at the end of the movie
(Pointed out by my friend). She went from being puke girl to April Oā€™hero. They would probably stop teasing her since she was friends with the most popular kids in the city but the 2 most likely outcomes would be
1. They just stopped and then left the insults on there, maybe scratched them out
2. Wiped off the locker and never spoke of it again
No one writes nice things on other peoples lockers lol
The boys want to share a room
I guarantee if 4 teenage brothers had a choice between sharing bunk beds and each having their own rooms, theyā€™d have their own rooms.
Imagine arguing with your sibling and you donā€™t have your own room to sulk and avoid them? By choice??? People need their own spaces. No matter how much I love my siblings if I shared a room with them itā€™d be chaos.
There would be one prank done in that room to one of their beds and thatā€™d be the end of the shared room lol
The fact that everyone unquestionably liked them (especially at school)
Kids are assholes. Thatā€™s it.
AGAIN this is just things I thought were unrealistic in a funny way, itā€™s a kids movie so itā€™s not that deep.
This was definitely one of my favourite versions of tmnt (I havenā€™t seen all of them but still). It was a good mix of serious and goofy and I liked it a lot. I recommend seeing it, I want to watch it again lol

DA BOIS
I SAW THE MOVIE
I WAS INTRODUCED TO THE UTTER NONSENSE THAT IS MM /aff
I HAVE THOUGHTS
NOT, LIKE, ANALYSIS WHICH MAY COME LATER
JUST THOUGHTS
AND SPOILERS
So Iā€™m studying the boys and at first I was just ā€œThey really are leaning into this whole teen thing, huhā€ but then I thought back to every memory I have of my brothers and how they interacted and was just like- OH
OH WAIT
THIS IS ACCURATE
šŸ¤£ The bacon and egg scene- literally my brothers in a nutshell. The constant quotes and references- a little on the nose, but accurate.
BUT I SPENT
THE ENTIRE MOVIE
Waiting to see which turtle would spike my patented they need some hurt/comfort and at first I was leaning towards Leo- BUT THEN WHEN THAT BUS/TRUCK (I forget exactly what it was) FLEW STRAIGHT AT DONNIE AND MIKEYā€™S WATCHING IN HORROR AND DONNIE IS STUMBLING AND HURT AND OBLIVIOUS AND LOOKS ONLY HALF PRESENT-
Hands down. That got me.
I has a favorite and heā€™s so innocent and bright-eyed and deserves injury and kidnapping. I will make this happen.
The boys as a family were so fluffy and vibrant and relatable.
The boys as individualsā€¦?
Leo has personality and concerns and attachments and a crush and flaws and strengths and he just felt like an person.
The rest seemed kindaā€¦ Plain. Raph had the anger thing going for him, but I have a hard time distinguishing Mikeyā€™s and Donnieā€™s personalities. Mikey was friendly and liked improve, but that was never really touched on at all. In battle or otherwise- Donnie was the one who was thinking fast and taking the lead when talking to the Superfly. And Donnie was the one who Leo described as the best with people.
Iā€™m not exactly sure what Mikey had going for himā€¦
Donnie isnā€™t much of a techie, other than his headphones and phone, which is only used casually. He can drive and read comics, but thatā€™s not really an abnormal teen thing. Like, any of his brothers couldnā€™t have driven using game skills? Or come up with a comic/movie solution to defeat Superfly?
Thatā€™s more nitpicks than anything tho. I might have missed things as well- itā€™s only my first watch. You shouldnā€™t make any firm decisions or judgements based on a first meeting. Hopefully, Iā€™ll spot differences between them later on or theyā€™ll flush out the characters more in the series.
They pushed a LOT into this movie. Everything was happening all at once. Like, they didnā€™t skip a BEAT when shifting from evil mutants trying to kill the boys to TCRI is locking them up.
And what the heck did Leo expect April to do?? SHE WAS ON A HIGHWAY BRIDGE?? DID HE EXPECT HER TO JUMP DOWN- SHEā€™S COMMENTED ON HOW CRAZY THEIR ROOFTOP TRAVEL IS! What makes him think she can do that??? šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
At the very least she had to bike around and off the bridge to do anything, and he would have been unconscious by then. Boi just like ā€œshe abandoned us šŸ„ŗā€ when she could have been trying to help them while they were being loaded before going to get Splinter.
All hypothetical, of course. Would make for a good OneShot tho.
I like how the April betrayal was just a ā€œI guess I was wrongā€ type of disappointment and not some dramatic heartbreak, because that feels more realistic to me. Relieved the crush wasnā€™t played off for laughs and all the brothers seemed disappointed.
April was such a good teen. They never played her off as anything but a normal person who didnā€™t have quite the right amount of self-preservation. Probably where the journalism comes in.
She was also a good representation that you donā€™t need green skin to not fit in. Life is hard, man, and I hope the series explores that even tho people donā€™t scream when they see them, that doesnā€™t mean life will be any less difficult. School is still prey grounds and people are still predators .
OMGEE SUPERFLY THO
DUDE WAS SCARY. BUT THE WHOLE TIME. I WAS WATCHING.
I COULDNā€™T NOT LIKE HIM FOR BEING EVIL
Dude got his daddy KILLED after daddy talked about raising him and his siblings and being a loving family by a bunch of weapon-using scary humans that also tried to kill them WHILE HE WAS A BABY
TCRI CREATED A FORMATIVE MEMORY THAT WAS STRAIGHT TRAUMA! OF COURSE HE HATES HUMANS-
That poor fly šŸ„ŗšŸ˜”
The parallel between Splinter and Superfly was interesting. Felt a tiny bit forced at the end there, but I can respect it. Canā€™t dictate a famā€™s every choice. Thatā€™s not fair. Gotta let your fam be free to grow and make their own mistakes and create their own morals~
I have a couple other thoughts, but I want to formulate them a bit more. See if I can make stuff off of them.
One last thing before I goā€¦
MY SOCIAL ANXIETY HEADCANON STILL STANDS
NOT ONCE IN THE WHOLE MOVIE WERE THEY SEPERATED UNTIL THE SCHOOL
And even then itā€™s in a controlled environment. They all know where the other is. It seems safe.
But what happens when that illusion is goneā€¦?

Ya know, Iā€™ve been thinking a lot lately about the expedited aging factor from mutation and wondering how they might use it more in Mutant Mayhem/Tales of the TMNTā€¦
Idk if many people caught it because it actually took me so many watches before I started thinking about the aging timelines of the turtles and the other mutants despite being mutated at the same time and age(ish), but it catches my attention every time I watch the movie
I started wondering why Superfly and his siblings were all already adults while the turtles are still teenagers. Plus, Splinter regales that he was in his early 20ā€™s when he was a pre-mutated rat. And yet when we see him mutated 15 later older he seems to already be more in his 60ā€™s or 70ā€™s with his white hairs and massive balding and less teeth, not like someone whoā€™s actually only in their mid to late 40ā€™s.
And it finally hit me. ā€œBecause I was older, I became older rat man. You guys was babies, so you stayed baby turtle creatures. If you think about that, it couldnā€™t make more sense!ā€
For the longest time this line kind of struck me as strange because it seemed Splinter was simply explaining that he stayed older than them in his mutation, and that they stayed babies of course. Which like, thatā€™s obvious. Why have a line about it? It finally hit me that Splinter said he became an older rat, not in relation to the boys, but to his age pre-mutation. At first when he mutated he still looked pretty young, and in the Eye Know montage we see him develop his huge curly fro, then become the bald, whiskery white-haired rat who needs glasses by the time the turtles are done training. The mutation aged him up at a faster rate somehow and the line clarifies that, but that it had no effect on the turtles.
Which means it also affected the other mutants that same way, because theyā€™re strangely closer to their own age group more in the 30ā€™s or 40ā€™s maybe.
Not to mention, there are varying levels of strength too. I mean Superfly is the toughest mutant around and dude was on that level since he was a baby. Rocksteady couldnā€™t even take him on and it was literally a rhino against a super buff fly lol. Maybe thereā€™s something to be said about the fact that heā€™s the oldest too/the first one mutated. And strangely, when the blue ā€œde-mutantizingā€ goes into his bloodstream heā€™s turned back into a regular fly looking more like how he did as his baby self šŸ¤”
Maybe the way everyone was exposed to the ooze had varying effects on each of them. Superfly and his siblings were experimented on and created much more intentionally, seen floating in their canisters of ooze in the beginning scene. The turtles were exposed slightly more indirectly, and then Splinter even further removed with how little ooze he was exposed to. It does seem that between all the mutants thereā€™s varying in age; Superfly as a baby was very astute and calculated, while the turtles were still hardly aware of much going on around them when the vial of ooze had splattered all over them. But itā€™s also harder to tell the exact ages of babies.
This whole aging element is something completely new introduced in this version of turtles, and honestly you have to question what led the writers/creators to make such an interesting change. Iā€™m so excited and curious to see them explore this factor in the future and why it works the way it did with Splinter, the older mutants, and not the turtles. I think they could do some really interesting stuff with that change.

Mayhem in Nevada - UPDATE
I hit a roadblock with the plot, in which I'm not sure how the Mutants will meet Sanford and or Status Quo. This is crucial to the plot, as it will determine how all of the characters interact with each other. To get around this, I have tried coming up with several scenarios. Once I finish the scenarios, I will hold a poll with my favorite scenarios along with the option for you to come up with your own ideas in the comments section as well. For the poll, each scenario will have a summary and has a corresponding name.
If the comments section ends up winning, I will hold another poll with best of the submitted scenarios. Depending on how many submissions I get, I may have to do a tournament instead.
---
Sorry about the lack of updates on this AU, a lot of things have been going on lately and I'm starting college again soon as well.

Superfly's home base for the TMNT: Mutant Mayhem movie! I based this location on the Arthur Kill ship graveyard in Staten Island. It was really fun painting in the existing boats there and figuring out the type of ship that felt right for Superfly and family. Included some sketches of other ideas I had for the set.
More work on my ig: @hi_garrett
